Juan Manuel Brígido, a leader in the sector, said that although there was a rebound in May, consumption is still far from optimal. Furthermore, he highlighted that only part of the increase corresponds to taxes and that the rest was provided by the oil companies.
Due to the sustained increase in prices, the demand for fuel in the province continues to decline.
This was expressed by the owner of one of the YPF service stations and a leader in the sector, Juan Manuel Brígido. «There is a significant drop in fuel consumption. Although there is a slight rebound in May, it is still not optimal or the best. The drop in consumption is important and even more so here in La Rioja,” said Brígido on Riojavirtual Radio.
The businessman highlighted that in this latest increase “a part corresponds to taxes but the rest is an increase in oil companies.” «We expected a higher percentage increase, but it was 4% in gasoline and 2.6% in diesel. Now we hope that prices will stabilize so that demand is restored,” he said.
Then, Brígido said that a tax delay still persists in the price of fuel. «The tax delay is more important than what has already been updated. Now we have to see what the national government decides with these tax increases, whether it continues to extend them or not. If the fuel tax issue is updated it should be in stages because the delay is important enough to do it in a single section,” he concluded.
