As planned, San Juan with the presence of Secretary of State for Security and Public Order, Gustavo Sánchez, together with the director of Civil Protection, Carlos Heredia and the deputy commissioner, Javier Pérez, representing the D-9 Fire Department of the Police, were part of an international meeting of firefighters in Chiliunder the coordination of International Search and Rescue Operations Advisory Group (INSARAG).

The event was a requalification exercise for firefighters, specifically in the National Urban Search and Rescue System (USAR) team, authorized and qualified for search and rescue in collapsed structures.

In this sense, the objective of San Juan’s participation was to certify a USAR group and to do so, the parameters and standards established by INSARAG are being followed. The initiative demonstrates the commitment and constant preparation of the San Juan authorities in strengthening their capabilities in civil protection and rescue, with the aim of providing a more efficient and effective service to the community.

INSARAG is a group of international search and rescue experts that was established by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in 1991. The objective is to improve the coordination and effectiveness of search and rescue teams in emergency situations and disasters around the world.

One of INSARAG’s main roles is to establish international standards for search and rescue response in disasters, as well as to coordinate the training and exercises of response teams. Also, it provides guidance and technical support to member countries to strengthen their disaster response capabilities.

The event included observers from different countries such as Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia and Argentina, represented by the Secretary of Security, as well as evaluators and exhibitors from the United States, Australia, Oman, England and China.
