Quito, June 3, 2024 (Quito Informa). – The exclusive traffic lights for cyclists implemented at three intersections: Amazonas and Patria, Amazonas and Colón, and Amazonas and Eloy Alfaro (north) are based on designs that prioritize one of the main actors in mobility. The Metropolitan Public Company of Mobility and Public Works (Epmmop) carried out this work.
It includes eight traffic lights for cyclists, a column for pedestrians, four single supports and one double, 840 meters of cables and other components required for the correct functioning of the intersections. In addition to contributing to road safety for cyclists, these intersections are monitored from our control room.
The traffic lights installed are eco-friendly, energy efficient and sustainable, since they are equipped with LED-type luminaires. They have light intensity sensors that save up to 20% energy compared to common traffic lights.
The Epmmop works to improve the cycling infrastructure of the Metropolitan District of Quito with actions to maintain horizontal and vertical signage, as well as the implementation of traffic lights for cyclists at the busiest intersections.
