Outstanding institutions in environmental management are recognized in Cienfuegos

About twenty institutions in the province of Cienfuegos received this Monday the Territorial Environmental Recognition (RAT) for their results in the application of policies aimed at protecting the environment.

During the provincial event for World Environment Day, which is celebrated every June 5, recognition was given to nine entities in the tourism sector, including the Palmares and Servisa branches, the defilnario, Jagua campsite and the Rancho Luna hotel complex – Faro Luna, this last creditor also of the Environmental Beach certificate awarded for the first time by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, Citma in Cienfuegos.

The RAT was also received by the Oleohdiráulica Cienfuegos company, headquarters of the event, and health centers such as the Paquito González Cueto pediatric hospital, the Molecular Biology Laboratory and the Medical Services branch.

Men and women dedicated to the preservation of the environment were feted at this celebration, as were the groups of the Cienfuegos Botanical Garden, the Provincial Meteorological Center, the Center for Environmental Studies and the Center for Energy and Environment Studies of the University Carlos Rafael Rodríguez, where scientific talent is put to work on the development of strategies for the management of natural resources and climate resilience.

MsC Yaria de la Caridad Soto Herrera, territorial delegate of Citma, highlighted the government’s will to promote sustainable development from local policies, with results in the use of renewable energy sources, the treatment of hazardous waste and the introduction of new economic instruments for the preservation of ecosystem goods and services.

In 2024, the central theme of World Environment Day is resilience and adaptation to desertification, under the motto “Our lands. Our future. We are the #RestorationGeneration. This campaign highlights the importance of restoring lands, stopping desertification and strengthening resilience to drought, one of the most serious threats to terrestrial ecosystems.
