Cuban Lázaro Iglesias Valdés, originally from Arroyo de Mantua in Pinar del Río, was about to lose his life when he was trapped in a well 25 meters deep.

After being inside the well, the lack of oxygen caused disorientation and loss of consciousness.

The Cuban had gone down to the well to clean it, but his colleagues on the surface noticed his critical situation and sought help from the local medical services, but did not receive a timely response, since they do not have the tools or knowledge to do so.

The Antillean was still inside the well with a lack of oxygen and hypothermia and his friends continued looking for help, but this time before the Border Guard troops of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), as reported this Sunday by official journalist Lázaro Boza.

Another Cuban, soldier Abel Martínez Fiallo, arrived at the scene and upon realizing the seriousness of the situation and the imminent risk to Iglesias’ life, he decided to descend into the well to rescue him, while he was tied with a rope.

“I’m coming to save you,” Martínez Fiallo told Iglesias Valdés, who, amid the lack of oxygen, managed to tie him up and gave the signal for them to climb the rope from above.

The rescued Cuban received medical attention to stabilize him and the soldier who saved him was also checked for first aid.

“I did what I had to do in those circumstances; Otherwise, a man and father of a family would have died,” said the rescuer.

Cubans run their own risks in the face of the needs they face, since this Cuban put his life in danger to clean a well, in a task that does not correspond to him but that necessity forced him to do.
