In a white coat ceremony, the students received the endorsement from the Alma Mater to begin their professional internships.

After completing ten semesters of high-quality training and having passed all academic requirements, 56 students from the Medicine Program at the University of Magdalena received approval to begin the rotating internship stage.

The transition to their professional practices was carried out through a solemn ceremony of imposition of white coats, in which the teachers handed over the distinctive attire that gives them the power to intervene with responsibility, ethics and professionalism in the lives of other human beings.

“We are providing society with new internal doctors with a high degree of humanism, who were trained in a high-quality accredited program and in an inclusive and innovative university,” said doctor María Angélica Meñaca Guerrero, director of the Medicine Program.

The students will carry out their first professional exercise in health institutions in Santa Marta, the Caribbean region and other cities in Colombia with which UNIMAGDALENA has teaching-service agreements.

Camilo Guerra Daza, who received the white coat, argued that he is sure that he will do a good job during his rotating internship, due to the education received at the Alma Mater: “I hope to be that person who represents everything that the University has given me” .

With approval, another new group of beneficiaries of the Talento Magdalena program demonstrates the success of the institutional strategy led by Rector Pablo Vera Salazar by reaching this stage that brings them closer to their undergraduate degree.

There are eight young people from various municipalities in the department of Magdalena, like Andrea Padilla Flórez, originally from San Sebastián, who entered the University to fulfill their dream and received the resources to transform their lives and their territories.

“The University has a large teaching staff, the practice places are optimal and all the necessary knowledge is acquired. “I am completely happy and I am pleased that everything paid off,” said Talento Magdalena intern.

For teachers, the white coat ceremony is an emblematic and exciting moment, because they see the result of the knowledge shared with future professionals.

“It is a pride, it is gratifying to have been part of their training. I am confident in their training, looking forward to working with them. They are at the same level as universities nationwide and have incredible development,” said doctor Johanna Rivas Rodríguez, professor of the program.

The Medicine Program, aligned with UNIMAGDALENA’s commitment to educational quality and supported by its national accreditation, seeks to ensure that future doctors are capable of providing promotion, prevention and treatment, with relevance to the health needs of the territory.
