Almost a hundred residents of Valparaíso participated in a virtual meeting to acquire knowledge that will allow them to raise awareness and take care measures against the rise in diseases caused by respiratory viruses in recent weeks.

The event, developed by the Citizen Mayor’s Office, had the participation of Mayor Jorge Sharp, the municipal health director, Mónica Riveros, and Carlos Guerrero, a doctor specializing in family medicine.

At the meeting, the authorities and specialist explained to the community the health measures and recommendations that are most necessary on this date, where a peak in infections due to respiratory diseases is occurring, a situation that has begun to saturate the consultations of the Health Services. Emergency Care, and also clinical beds in hospital facilities.

Faced with this, the municipal health area announced that it has made additional resources available to be able to be there every day (including weekends) with vaccination points, and with double reinforcement in both SAPU and CESFAM.

Regarding this instance, Mónica Riveros pointed out that “an informed community is a community more prepared to face these health emergency situations, therefore, the mayor asked us to take all possible preventive actions, and train neighbors and social leaders. “It is one of the tools that we are developing in the health area, and that we will continue to do.”

For his part, Mayor Jorge Sharp highlighted that “this action goes hand in hand with more municipal resources to strengthen the teams in both CESFAM and SAPU, and thus support the emergency services network. The indices show that we are in a phase of increasing diseases, and we are going to take all the necessary actions so that the health of our neighbors can be attended to in a timely manner.”

Regarding the care aspects, doctor Carlos Guerrero valued the instance and indicated that “it is important that we have individual behaviors that help prevent infections so that we do not enter into a crisis like the one that occurred in 2023. Therefore, we want to involve the community of Valparaíso, and this message of prevention and care can reach the greatest number of people.”
