The Women’s Office of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nationpublished the National Registry of Femicide of the Argentine Justice of the year 2023. Last year, 250 direct victims of femicide were registered (almost 2,500 victims in a decade).
In Cordova18 judicial cases related to femicides were initiated in which there were 18 direct victims: 17 cis women and 1 trans woman.
The average age of victims is 39 years and 7 of them presented intersectionality conditions (prostitution situation, problematic substance use and mental health problems). Of the total number of victims, 11 were mothers and had a total of 16 children under 18 years of age.
Meanwhile, there are 19 identified aggressors since father and son participated in one of the cases (9 of them had previous complaints of violence by the victims). The average age of active subjects is 43.1 years.
Regarding the link between direct victims and active subjects, 6 were couples and 7 were ex-couples. While 4 active subjects were relatives of the victim: 1 father, 2 children and 1 former stepfather). This represents that 89% of the active subjects belonged to the victim’s close circle.
Regarding the geographical location of the event, 4 occurred in the city of Córdoba and 14 in the provincial interior. And 61% of the events occurred in the victim’s home. (in 5 cases, the property in question was shared between the victim and the active subject).
Based on data from the registry and INDEC, the rate of direct victims of femicide per 100,000 women was calculated, which amounts to 0.91 (0.01 less than in 2022). This equals one direct femicide for every 109,772 women in the province of Córdoba.
The Women’s Office of Córdoba, which depends on the Superior Court of Justice (TSJ), is in charge of collecting data from the province and has the collaboration of the Center for Strategic Management and Statistics of the TSJ.
