Caracol Radio learned that, No later than June 30, Israel’s ambassador to Colombia Gali Dagan must leave the country and return to Israel, A measure is taken after the Colombian government decided to break diplomatic relations with that country after the attacks on the Gaza Strip.

In addition to Ambassador Gali Dagan, officials from the Colombian embassy in Israel must also return to the country for June 30, this despite the fact that the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs intends to maintain the activity of the respective consular sections in Tel Aviv and Bogotá.

The decision to cut diplomatic relations with Israel is the result of a series of warnings and tensions that have increased since the beginning of the conflict between Israel and Hamas. In March, President Gustavo Petro had warned about the possibility of taking this measure if Israel did not comply with a resolution of the United Nations Security Council calling for a ceasefire in GazaTo this, Israel responded that it would not give in to pressure or threats.

However, on May 2, the Colombian government confirmed the decision to break diplomatic relations, a determination which they assure “is directed exclusively at the breaking of diplomatic relations and never against the Israeli people or against the Jewish communities, since we are united by historical ties and friendship that will persist.”
