Gustavo Arrieta participated in a meeting with the Ambassador of India

The president of the Parlasur Economic Affairs Commission, Gustavo Arrieta, and the president of the Human Rights Commission, Victoria Donda, met with the Ambassador of the Republic of India in Argentina and Uruguay, Dinesh Bhatia, at the headquarters of the embassy in the city of Buenos Aires.

During the meeting, the ambassador and the parliamentarians discussed Human Rights policy in both countries and in the region, particularly in relation to the phenomenon of migrants. In addition, the national government’s refusal to join the BRICS, an economic bloc that represents 40% of the world’s population and 20% of international trade, was addressed.

The BRICS is an association, group and political and economic forum of emerging countries, made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. It emerged in 2010 after South Africa joined the already existing organization called -at that time- BRIC.

In statements after the meeting, Arrieta expressed concern about Argentina’s decision to reject joining the BRICS, calling it “detrimental to the country’s interests and a strategic mistake” that leaves it tied to dependence on the United States.

It was a pleasant meeting at the Buenos Aires embassy between Donda, Arrieta and the Indian ambassador. in Argentina and Uruguay.

“We lost a very valuable opportunity,” said Arrieta, highlighting that the decision not to join the BRICS was based more on ideological considerations than on the economic context and the country’s commercial needs.

Likewise, he pointed out that the numbers and economic data support the importance of joining an economic association as relevant as the BRICS, which seeks to enhance the possibilities of its members through South-South cooperation and the linkage between nations with economic, political objectives. and similar social.

Finally, Arrieta regretted that by not joining the BRICS, Argentina misses opportunities already won and reveals a lack of strategic vision and commitment to the country’s long-term economic interests.
