Trova as the essence of the Cuban spirit marked the beginning of the XXXVIII Spiritus Culture Colloquium, a space that on the eve of the ancient city’s birthday always calls on the sciences to listen to the sociocultural life of the nation.

“In trova are our joys and sorrows, the epic and the lyrical. There is what the Cuban can never lack: always believing. It is an affirmation of the past and security for the future,” Juan Eduardo Bernal Echemendía, Juanelo, researcher from Sancti Spiritus, shared in his opening words.

The event does justice to the sound that exalts the staff not only of Sancti Spíritus, but of the entire country and that outside national borders leaves no room for doubt that it comes from this archipelago.

The rest of the topics that followed the initial conversation, also shared by Eduardo Sosa and Carlos Manuel Borroto, have similar significance. The Santiago de Sancti Spiritus, the Greater Parish Church, Tomás Capote, peasant music and danzón were some of the topics addressed in the studies that made up the event’s program.

Two juries evaluated the research presented in two commissions: Historical studies, heritage, artistic-literary creation and cultural traditions and Sociocultural studies, communications, library sciences and Artistic Education. In both, laurels were awarded.
