Chile is the first country – outside of China – to have this electric model with four-wheel drive. This feature is a fundamental requirement for mining companies and other companies in the operation of their transportation.

The wait is over for companies and contractors in mining, energy, fishing, engineering and other industries operating in Chile, which for several years had been requesting 4×4 or four-wheel drive electric trucks for their transportation operations. Today the Chilean electromobility company Voltera next to the Chinese giant ZNA (Zhengzhou Nissan Automobile, alliance between Nissan and Dongfeng) launched for the local market the Voltera R7 4×4 pick up.

Chile is the first country – outside of China – to have this full electric modelwhich began to be exhibited at the international mining and energy fair Exponor 2024, which takes place between June 3 and 6 in the city of Antofagasta.

“The launch of the new Voltera R7 4×4 electric pick-up, the first truck of these characteristics for companies in Chile, is a milestone and excellent news for electromobility, as it will accelerate its adoption by companies that were waiting. of a four-wheel drive vehicle that would meet its transportation, efficiency and safety requirements,” said Fernando RouliezCorporate Commercial Manager of Voltera.

He emphasized that

“The mining sector is one of the most interested, given its operational and safety requirements. We have already carried out various ‘pilots’ with the most important mining groups in the country – in real operating conditions -, testing this new model within the framework of their CO2 emissions reduction strategies and energy efficiency objectives. And the results have been excellent.”

The new Voltera R7 4×4 pick up is an evolution of the successful Voltera R6 4×2 model, the best-selling electric truck in Chile in the last three yearsand to date it has more than 200 units in circulation, even in mining operations at more than 4,000 meters above sea level.

Two powerful engines

One of the innovations of this new electric vehicle is that it has two motors – one rear and one front.which provide a combined power of 360 kW and 483 HP.

It has capacity for five passengers, three driving modes (eco, normal and sport) and a 77.3 kWh lithium battery, with an 8-year or 160,000 kilometer warranty., which gives it a maximum autonomy (CLTC) of 430 kilometers. The fast charging time of the battery (30% – 80%) in DC direct current is less than 30 minutes.

Its dimensions in meters are 5.29 (length) x 1.87 (height) x 1.88 (width), with a wheelbase of 3.15 meters, and a load capacity of 1,250 kilos with passengers. It has a double airbag, 360° and reversing camera.

mobile power source

Another innovation of this new electric pickup is that it incorporates V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) technology.which allows the vehicle’s battery to be used to power various devices, such as computers, tools and electrical appliances, among others, or even be used as an autonomous energy source in case of blackouts and emergencies.

“Having a 100% electric truck with V2L technology is like having a mobile energy source, which can be used to carry out work with electrical equipment at any time,” explained Leonardo Leyton, Voltera E-Mobility Manager.

In Asia this technology has already been used in disasters such as earthquakes. Also to power mobile refrigeration devices to administer COVID-19 vaccines in remote areas and as support for electro-dependent people.

Efficiency and zero emissions

This new modelIn addition to having all the comfort elements of a modern vehicle – CarPlay system, latest generation touch radio with 12-inch screen, climate control and steering wheel controls, among others -, stands out for its important benefits in terms of energy efficiency and fuel savings, care for the environment and reduction of the carbon footprint.

For example, Each unit allows users to stop emitting between 6 and 10 tons of CO2 per year, depending on use, while the cost of charging the battery for a 100-kilometer trip is approximately $3,000. The above implies a saving of 75% compared to the cost of traditional combustion trucks.

“We are convinced that this pickup represents the best solution for companies looking for an efficient 4×4 electric vehicle from an economically and environmentally responsible point of view,” manifested Patricio ConchaMarketing and Corporate Sales Manager at Voltera.

Voltera is a Chilean company dedicated 100% to electromobility, which has the representation of electric vehicles, chargers and associated technology for both Chile and Peru from the manufacturers ZNA and DFLZ of the DongFeng group; Maple and Farizon from Zhejiang Geely Holding Group; and IoCharger, among others.

Voltera’s model goes beyond the commercialization of electric vehicles and is based on a 360° comprehensive service according to the particular needs of each client., which includes advice on the installation of high-power chargers for company fleets; software that provides online information on vehicle performance, efficiency, location, speed and driving characteristics; the only technical service dedicated exclusively to electromobility, a mobile workshop for field service and financial and operational leasing partners.
