Alexander De Jesús Mendoza Mengual, the 18-year-old young man who on the morning of this Monday, June 3, lost his life when he allegedly confronted police patrol cars who had asked him to stop when, in the company of other young people, he ignored an official request. for them to stop at a checkpoint, he was an active military man who had just ‘sworn the flag’ in a military garrison in Cundinamarca.
The young man was traveling on a motorcycle with a friend with whom he had apparently been chatting during the night and already in the early morning, the incident occurred in which the two boys apparently ignored the loud voices of the uniformed officers. It was indicated by family members that when the boys passed through the checkpoint, they were attacked with bullets and that is why the young Alexander De Jesús has a gunshot wound that entered through the back.
At the clinic they clashed with police
The family indicated that when they found out about the injuries that the young man had, they all left for the Cedes clinic where they had been told that the injured man was taken and when they arrived there they were informed that the young man had died and then the relatives wanted to enter the clinic to search. to Alexander De Jesús and it was there when anarchy broke out due to the confrontation of relatives, initially with the security guards.
From the clinic and outside it, the Police emergency number was called and help was requested to control the people who wanted to enter the healthcare center from the outside.
According to the commander of the armed institution, when his police officers arrived outside the clinic on 13th Street and tried to impose order, they were attacked by the relatives of the young man who was shot.
There were many shots and fear outside the clinic
Some people who work in informal commerce around the clinic said that they were moments of great fear, because there were knives in the hands of civilians and other men armed themselves with stones and attacked the police officers.
They indicated that one of the uniformed men was hit in the head by a rock and is still alive due to the protection that the safety helmet gave him because the blow was accurate and not having been protected was a dead man.
Aminta Isabel Barros, is Alexander’s grandmother and the one who had raised him, and states that they were attacked and that Alexander never attacked him, but that they did not stop at the checkpoint. She indicates that, in front of the clinic, they were attacked again by the police and that is when three more people were injured.
The deceased’s sister is injured
The grandmother indicated that Adriana Mendoza is the sister of the deceased and is currently linked to the Police as a patrol officer. She says that when she learned of her brother’s death, she was one of those who wanted to enter the clinic to see what what was happening, but they prevented it and when they were facing each other, a bullet, which they indicate was fired by the group of police officers, hit a structure and then injured her in one of her legs. The patrol vehicle was admitted to the same Cedes clinic.
A nephew of the deceased said that in total they have three injured and there are two more, relatives of them, who are admitted to the emergency room of the Nuestra Señora de los Remedios Hospital where they are receiving the corresponding treatment.
The investigation is carried out by the CTI of the Prosecutor’s Office
The investigation into the homicide of the young soldier and the injuries with firearms to three others was assigned to the Technical Investigation Corps of the Prosecutor’s Office (CTI) in order to provide more guarantees to those affected.
The investigations to determine what really happened around this event that altered the entire sector around the clinic and a good part of the city of Riohacha, are already underway and since the same morning officials began to arrive at the clinic and its surroundings. of the CTI Judicial Police, gathering primary information to advance the investigation as soon as possible.
