An event that brought together authorities and businessmen was headed by the Minister of Energy and made it possible to learn about limitations and proposals to achieve the growth of the port.

The Chacabuco Port Company (Emporcha), through its board of directors and general management, was part of the session of the Cabinet for Growth and Employment, which took place in Puerto Aysén, and was led by the Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow, in representation of President Gabriel Boric.

It is an important consultative and decentralized body, promoted by the Executive and that brings together with certain periodicity – meeting in regions – national and local authorities, together with representatives of companies and unions from each territory, in order to review investment initiatives. public and private that are being developed or planned in each area.

In the case of Aysén, the activity was promoted jointly by the Energy and Economy Seremías, and in it – in addition to other initiatives – it was possible to learn about the infrastructure expansion proposal that Emporcha seeks to promote.

“We were able to do a brief review of our port area, what its current infrastructure is and why it is necessary to expand its capacity, as well as the difficulties we may encounter to materialize it and also some financing alternatives. This initiative was well received by the Pro Growth Cabinet and also by those who attended representing the private sector,” explained Felipe Candia, general manager of Emporcha.

At the company’s exhibition, the current panorama of the operation of the Aisenino facility was given, which in 7 hectares and with a capacity to serve ships of up to 190 meters in length and 9.2 meters in draft, mobilizes more than 450 thousand tons of multipurpose cargo from sectors such as fishing, mining and aquaculture, and serves more than 5 thousand calls annually, in addition to operating five connectivity docks on the northern coast of the region

The executive highlighted the intermediary and leadership of the Energy minister, Tomás Laibe, and his Economy counterpart, Felipe Rojas, who organized the space. “We greatly appreciate that you have considered us, that you have estimated our needs and that we have been able to publicize our expansion project in the context of this session,” Candia added.

According to Candia, it was important to point out that the moment of inflection of the region, which has several mining, forestry and energy projects in the pipeline for the next decade, forces it to look for growth alternatives so that the port is enabling infrastructure for its economic expansion, and not a restrictive element for this to happen.

“We are seeing that different projects that exist in the region could be restricted by the port’s capacity to meet the logistical requirements of each project. That could affect the development of private investments, if we do not address the need to develop sufficient capacity that can serve and make projects viable, among them, the Newmont mining initiative,” exemplified the manager of Emporcha.

In this regard, among the proposals presented by the port company in the session is incorporating a new methodology – taking into account local particularities – to determine the demand projection; address new criteria to define an eventual favorable recommendation (RS) for the expansion; modify current regulations to incorporate exceptions for multi-operation; and seek alternatives for state financing, among others.
