On Monday, the formalization hearing of 37 detainees in “Operation Caserío” will be held. The hearing is being held in the Alto Hospicio Guarantee Court and is expected to last until the afternoon.

In the instance, the Tarapacá Prosecutor’s Office requested that the hearing be reserved for the crimes of which the accused are accused and for the details of this investigation.

The mega-operation was carried out last week in different communes in the region and ended with the dismantling of a criminal organization and two criminal gangs associated with it.

600 detectives participated in this investigation and investigations were carried out in various communes of Tarapacá, which were led on the ground by the national prosecutor, Ángel Valencia, and the general director of the PDI, Eduardo Cerna.

The proceedings began in November 2022 for the crime of violating the Drug Law, revealing that a Chilean criminal organization had been operating in the region since 2021 and had stolen mining trucks, to later be exchanged in Bolivia for drugs and weapons.

The PDI revealed that the organization used people who entered the country illegally, mainly Venezuelan citizens, for drug sales and custody, and theft of vans. In the investigation, the theft of 10 mining trucks was established.

In the police procedure, 70 homes were raided between the communes of Pozo Almonte, Alto Hospicio, Iquique and Pica, and in the towns of Chanavayita, Matilla and Colonia Pintados, belonging to the main criminal organization and two criminal gangs that supplied drugs.

As part of the operation, 13 weapons, ballistic ammunition of various calibers, 13 vehicles, a fast food cart and drugs were seized. Investigations were carried out in various communes of Tarapacá that were led on the ground by the national prosecutor, Ángel Valencia, and the general director of the PDI, Eduardo Cerna.

Thus, it was decided to extend the detention of all the subjects for this Monday, June 3, the date on which the detention control hearing and subsequent formalization of the 37 defendants began.

Cristian Godoy is in this group, after being arrested in the city of La Serena this weekend. The brother of the mayor of Pozo Almonte, Richard Godoy, He was a fugitive after the raid on his home as part of this operation.

The accused is accused of crimes of drug trafficking, micro-trafficking, illicit association for trafficking, carrying and possession of weapons and ammunition, being formalized this Monday along with 36 other people.
