As a token of gratitude, “for his courage and for promoting the defense of human rights,” the international affairs advisor of Palestine, Riad Malki, decorated President Gustavo Petro this Monday, June 3. It was recognition, they said, for always defending the Palestinian people from Israel’s attacks.
The event took place at the Casa de Nariño and was broadcast by the public media system RTVC. There the Colombian president received the Great Necklace of the State of Palestine with the presence of Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo and other members of his cabinet.

“The president of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, has decided to award him on behalf of all of them (the Palestinian people) the most distinguished medal, the Great Necklace of the State of Palestine. In moments when civilization is in question, where darkness has shown us some of its bitterest faces, where what is at stake is humanity itself, his voice in defense of the Palestinians has become the voice of hope and life itself,” said the Palestinian advisor.
Later, after speaking, the president said that in his life he has received many decorations, but that this is the most important and valuable.
“It is the most valuable that I have received, for what it means, for the history of the world, in the history of resistance and now for these unfortunate days that we are living in and that mark the history of humanity. “They are the signs of a terrible world that must be filled with hope,” said the Colombian head of state.
