The focus of the conflagration was recorded – according to the Magdalena Regional Autonomous Corporation (Corpamag) – in La Isla 1928, outside the limits of the Vía Parque Isla Salamanca.

The environmental authority specified that the Barranquilla and Sitionuevo Fire Department, with the support of the Port Captaincy, are in charge of the actions to control the fire.

“Corpamag will evaluate the environmental impacts and initiate administrative actions to determine and punish those responsible,” the entity wrote through its X account, formerly Twitter.

The Barranquilla Fire Department had to travel to the site of the conflagration in boats to have access to the territory and be able to attend to the emergency.

On social networks, several citizens asked the authorities to address this situation that has been recurring and that puts the biodiversity of protected areas at risk.

They called on the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, as well as the control entities, to stop these burnings, identify those responsible and dictate any sanctions that may apply.

“Zero authority! Another fire on Salamanca Island, in front of Barranquilla. Despite the serious environmental damage in that protected area, no one does anything. For this there is no @PGN_COL, no @FiscaliaCol, no @MinAmbienteCo,” wrote a user on X.
