He Ministry of Mining reconfirmed its commitment to Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI)being Guillermo Olguín and Mariana Azcona, secretary and director of Sustainable Mining Development, respectivelythe representatives before the entity.
The accession of San Juan to the EITI is a reflection of its willingness to align itself with international best practices. By doing so, the province not only strengthens its own mining governance, but also sends a clear signal to the international community and investors: San Juan is a fertile territory for mining, but also for ethics and sustainability.
San Juan’s participation in the EITI also highlights the importance of collaboration between the public sector, industry and civil society. He Multi-stakeholder Group (GMP)made up of representatives from these three sectors, works together to ensure that natural resources benefit citizens.
The EITI requires full disclosure of information on the mining industryincluding the legal and fiscal framework, the granting of permits and licenses, and the details of exploration, production and export. In addition, the income and payments of taxes, royalties and the final beneficiaries of mining projects. San Juan, by adopting these standards, places itself at the forefront of transparency in mining.
