A 67 year old doctoridentified as Silvia Nelly Bareawas convicted of having committed the crime of abandonment of a person against an elderly woman in a home for the elderly located in Ángel Gallardo, in the city of Santa Fe.

The sentence was ordered by the judge Jorge Patriziwithin the framework of an abbreviated trial that took place in the courts of the city of Santa Fe.

The health professional was sentenced to three years of suspended prison, and he was ordered to make financial reparation for one million pesos to the daughter of a woman he abused. The victim died last year, although for reasons not linked to the doctor’s actions.

The doctor accepted her responsibility

He prosecutor Agustín Nigro, who investigated what happened, indicated that “it was a long investigation in which photographic and audiovisual records, clinical histories, expert reports and the statements of witnesses from different areas were analyzed.” Meanwhile, she appreciated that “the relatives of the patient who suffered the illicit act expressed their agreement with the resolution.”

Barea expressly accepted her criminal responsibility as the author of the crime of aggravated abandonment of a person (for having caused serious damage to the body and health of the victim). Likewise, together with her defense, they accepted the criminal classification proposed by the Prosecutor’s Office, the sentence imposed and the decision to shorten the trial procedures.

What did he do to the victim

“Between December 2021 and April of the following year, the convicted woman displayed her criminal conduct in a home for the elderly located at kilometer 10.5 of Aristóbulo del Valle Avenue,” said Nigro. “At that time, she was the medical director and managing partner of the residence,” the prosecutor explained. And he stated that “Barea endangered the health of her patient by not providing her with necessary care. Although he had assumed the responsibility of caring for her, he acted with total contempt towards her.”

The judicial official added that “the illicit action caused the victim to have pressure ulcers that, when not treated, worsened until they affected the area of ​​the buttocks and the sacrum, the legs, one foot and one heel.”

The injuries were noticed by the patient’s daughter on Saturday, April 9, 2022, when she removed her mother from the home and transferred her to a private sanatorium, where she was hospitalized due to her serious health condition.
