This Monday, June 3, the formalization hearing will be held for 37 people who were detained during the Caserío Operation in the Tarapacá region, of which nine are foreigners and two are teenagers.
The hearing is held in the Alto Hospicio Guarantee Court and according to the information provided by the Judiciary, the Prosecutor’s Office requested confidentiality for the crimes that will be formalized and the details of the investigation – which is also reserved – that would be delivered in this audience.

The defenses of the accused were added to this, so the judge accepted the request and the hearing was declared reserved.

Prosecutor Hardy Torres had pointed out that “This was a mega procedure in which more than 600 police officials participated in an investigation by the Drug Unit of the Tarapacá Prosecutor’s Office that has taken more than a year and a half to identify the people who They were part of these criminal organizations. But it is an investigation that started with micro-trafficking crimes and the information provided by the community is relevant here. Many times this information seems innocuous and has no relevance, but in reality the relevance is seen months and even years later, since it is necessary to analyze and investigate it to arrive at the operation that we saw this week.”

In the mega-operation, four short weapons, five long weapons (four were rifles), three blank weapons, numerous war ammunition of different calibers, eight vehicles, two bulletproof vests and smuggled cigarettes were seized.

In the police procedure, 70 homes were raided between the communes of Pozo Almonte, Alto Hospicio, Iquique and Pica, and in the towns of Chanavayita, Matilla and Colonia Pintados, belonging to the main criminal organization and two criminal gangs that supplied drugs.
