The Municipality and SUNCA signed an agreement.

The Municipality of San José and the Single National Union of Construction and Annexes (Sunca) signed a cooperation agreement to promote the hiring of women by companies awarded construction tenders.

The agreement is framed in the working group formed in August 2023 with the objective of improving the safety and hygiene conditions of personnel working in civil works.

Through this agreement, the Municipality will request in the bidding documents for works that the winning companies hire -at least- one female person within their workforce, excluding the administrative, technical and supervisory categories.

The entry of women will be considered in the categories of civil works or assemblyregardless of your experience, which can be proven with certifications from courses taken.

The Municipality will create a job bank with women who reside in the department of San José and have experience in the construction field.

This registry will be available to companies that sign contracts with the ISJ. Those interested in registering for the job board can do so through the form website available on the page https://sanjose.gub.uy/, Transparency/Calls/Women in construction section.

The mayor of San José, Cra. Ana María Bentaberri, assured that the agreement “is a real opportunity” for the women of the department. “This agreement has to have a very special follow-up, it has to be a work flag that distinguishes San José,” he added.

For his part, Richard Ferreira, president of Sunca, highlighted that “this agreement goes in the direction of building greater equality and equity for a sector of society that has been harshly discriminated against and that requires greater opportunities.”
