The Seminary revives a new edition of its San José soccer tournament

A total of thirty teams participated in a day that combined sport, coexistence and moments of prayer and testimony.

The dynamics are simple. Teams of five to seven members are formed to play different ‘5-a-side football’ qualifying matches until they reach the final. The games are configured by age, from 4th grade to 2nd grade high school, with categories ranging from cadets to juveniles, including children. Along with the competition, the day is also completed with dips in the pool and moments of coexistence and prayer, with the Seminary and vocations to priestly life as a backdrop. In fact, the seminarians themselves are in charge of the logistics, the configuration of the teams and the refereeing of the matches, which they water with the story of their own vocational testimony and the invitation to participate in the other events they organize during the year.

The San José tournament has thus become another competitive ‘classic’, a vocational bet that, since it was launched eight years ago, has gained followers in each edition. Last Saturday, June 1, coinciding with the Champions League final, 250 kids, from parishes, schools and associations, gathered at the Seminar to attend this competition.

In total, 30 teams were formed, which played the qualification matches until the final tournament. The winner in the cadet category was the ‘West Jamón’ team, from the Niño Jesús school. In the children’s category, the medal went to the members of the ‘Unicef’ team, from the San Pedro and San Felices school and parish. The junior prize went to ‘The Crazy Nuns’, from the Concepcionistas school. The day concluded with the presentation of awards and a final party.
