Regions of Atacama and Coquimbo, June 3, 2024.- Continuing to improve irrigation safety, especially when climate change has caused strong production losses in the countryside, is the purpose of the National Irrigation Commission (CNR) by inviting Small User Organizations and Water User Organizations (OUA ) to participate in the “First competition for unselected civil works”, a national call that has a total of $5,000 million.

This call is aimed at civil conduction works, without telemetry, whose cost is up to UF 20,000, and that have previously been submitted to the Irrigation Law and did not obtain a bonus.

Regarding this call, the Coquimbo Regional Coordinator of the CNR, Álvaro Espinoza, indicated that “this contest is very important because it is focused on enhancing the management of water resources and providing greater irrigation security to the OAUs, and is aimed at unselected projects, which in previous calls already complied technically and legally. For this reason, we call on the Small User Organizations and Users of the Coquimbo Region, who have $750 million to subsidize their initiatives. The idea is to reach all sectors with these resources, as instructed by the Government of President Gabriel Boric.”

In this sense, the Zonal Coordinator of Atacama and Antofagasta of the CNR, Jaime Gutiérrez, highlighted that “we want to invite the Water User Organizations so that they can continue with the development of their conduction projects without telemetry, which allow them to be more efficient in the use of water resources. $500 million is available for the Atacama Region, and as the National Irrigation Commission, we are focusing our work, according to the guidelines of our government and the Ministry of Agriculture to provide water security, greater sustainability of production and food security.”

While the Seremi of Agriculture of the Atacama region, Cristian Cortés, called on the Irrigators’ Organizations to resubmit their initiatives. “We invite all those farmers who previously presented projects and who were not selected to participate, to present them in this new CNR call; so that their projects become a reality and so that our region continues to advance in the modernization of irrigation.”

For his part, the Seremi of Agriculture of the Coquimbo region, Christián Álvarez, pointed out that “this type of contest is very relevant for our rural world, since it allows better management of water resources. As a Government we are moving forward in providing instances and tools, aimed mainly at water user organizations, so that they can move towards a more sustainable agriculture, with efficient use of available resources.”The rules for this contest are now available on the website www. .cnr.gob.cl. Applications must be submitted to starting June 17, 2024 and until 11:59 p.m. on July 2, 2024 only through the CNR website.
