The Maritime Patrol Division exercised with the destroyer USS “Porter”

Mar del Plata – Within the framework of the PASSEX exercise “Gringo-Gaucho II”, units dependent on the Maritime Patrol Division and personnel of the Tactical Divers Group, carried out a combined activity with the destroyer USS “Porter”, which escorts the aircraft carrier USS “ George Washington”, to unify procedures and exchange experience in relation to maritime interdiction operations.

During the development of the exercise, the ocean patrol vessels ARA “Contraalmirante Cordero” and ARA “Piedrabuena” deployed their small boats (RHIB) towards the United States Navy ship, which simulated being a merchant ship in navigation. Complying with established procedures, the maritime interdiction was carried out in accordance with current international legislation.

For its part, the ARA patrol boat “Storni” provided security for the deployment of interdiction crews, previously participating in all the tactical maneuvers developed. Likewise, and with the objective of standardizing procedures between both Navies, personnel from the Tactical Divers Group embarked on the US destroyer, who have extensive operational experience in special naval operations.

Prior to the end of the exercise, an exchange of experiences was carried out between the participants, with the aim of analyzing the activity carried out and improving capabilities.

These combined exercises, using means and personnel from the Navies of our country and the North American one, not only contribute to the protection of our maritime jurisdictions and the resources present there, but also to the interoperability between both Naval Forces and the strengthening of ties of friendship and integration.
