75 families settled for 16 years in the Los Comuneros en Distracción invasion neighborhood are being harmed by the irrigation ditch that crosses the neighborhood.
The 300 people who today make up this neighborhood group reported that the small and harmless water source has been used by some people as garbage dump, producing a pollution that has them on the verge of madness.
These reprehensible practices mean that with the arrival of the rains, they cause the ditch to overflow and cause flooding in the houses.
The president of the Community Action Board, Ana Victoria Riverawarns that four administrations have passed, that is, 16 years and all have promised to channel or divert the ditch and none has fulfilled either one.
“This is a disaster because the floods have us in the mountains with so much dirt brought by the waters and the presence of mosquitoes has multiplied.” says the Communal.
He also asserts that the mayor Jacob Arnal Brito He is aware of all this because in his first administration he knew perfectly well what was happening in that development.
These families request that the neighborhood not only be legalized, but that their needs be met because they consider that the time they have been in possession of is sufficient.
The affected people are betting that the ditch be diverted but that if it cannot be done, at least the channeling will be done.
“We are people worthy of living well. Here there are children who even play inside that putrid ditch full of all kinds of garbage, dirt and all kinds of waste that are thrown up there.”said another resident.
The inhabitants of Los Comuneros live in deplorable conditions because, since they are not legal on said land, they live in impressive overcrowding.
They reveal that all the candidates during campaign times make multiple promises, including legalization and that they will help them, but they are nothing more than just promises.
Five months after Mayor Britto took office, they have not seen the president’s face, not even to tell them a lie, so now that they have already legalized the Communal directive, they are willing to take actions at another level, such as reaching the governorship in search of solutions.
“We have energy because we ourselves, with our activities, have managed to put it” said a community member who lives in the urbanization with his wife and four children.
The same has happened with the water that has been placed by the Community Members themselves by adding the hoses.
Although they have septic tanks, they have already collapsed due to the proximity of the irrigation ditch and they have no more places to build new ones, which has generated a worrying health situation.
