The train popularly known as El Espirituano could restart its operation next July, according to Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, Minister of Transportation, in a post on Facebook.

According to the owner, the objective of launching this equipment that leaves from Sancti Spiritus is “to continue contributing to the mobility of people with lower prices.”

In his official profile on the social network, engineer Rodríguez Dávila reports that the preparation of El Espirituano cars is carried out in the San Luis railway workshops in the province of Santiago de Cuba.

Restarting the services of this train will mean relief from the demand that traditionally increases in July and August as they are months of massive vacations.

One of the stations included in the El Espirituano route is Zaza del Medio, which will begin its restoration this June 4 with the aim of completing it in 203 days, according to the Minister of Transportation.

He explains that the building built in 1909 has suffered deterioration that has caused critical structural situations, which is why the recovery of this local heritage of the Sancti Spiritus municipality of Taguasco is prioritized.

For several months, the materials have been managed so that the work does not stop at any time, once it begins.

The only thing pending is the appeal to repair the roof, although its restoration would not take place until the first quarter of 2025.

Regarding the station, the Minister said that it is one of the most emblematic stops on the Espirituano route, but although the repair will not be finished by the time the train comes into operation, I know it will have begun to turn around its critical situation.
