The National Highway Institute (Invías) reported on the permanent closure of the Cusiana Transversal due to serious stability and structure problems identified in several crucial sections that link Boyacá with Casanare.

It is worth mentioning that on June 26, the road between the departments was closed due to cracks in the deck and beams of the “Chorro Blanco” bridge, located at km 81 + 550.

Since then, the institute conducted a study which revealed an increase in the size of cracks in bridges. Los Grillos, Puente Nuevo and Chorro Blanco.

“This is a difficult measure, but necessary to protect the lives of Colombians who use this route. The instability of the terrain and the structural problems in the bridges force us to Completely close the Transversal del Cusiana, including prohibiting the circulation of pedestrians and motorcyclists“, said the general director of Invías, Juan Carlos Montenegro Arjona.

The closure will specifically impact the section between kilometers 81 and 90 of the highway, where the most significant risks have been identified. According to the technical report, the cracks found in the deck and beams of the “Chorro Blanco” bridge, located at kilometer 81 + 550are particularly worrying due to their size and the impact they have on the structural safety of the viaduct.
