After the last agreement in negotiations parity between the union and the business chambers, the commercial employees will receive an increase in June wages of 7 percent.

The Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Services (CAC), the Argentine Confederation of Medium Enterprises (CAME), the Union of Argentine Commercial Entities (UDECA) and the Argentine Federation of Commerce and Services Employees (FAECyS), led by Armando Cavalieriagreed to an increase of salaries 15% in two tranches: 8% in April and 7% in May.

The administrative Category A will have a salary of $705,594.00, those in category B will have a salary of $708,631.00, C, $711,664.00, D, $720,767.00; E, $728,352.00; and F, $739,478.00.

For their part, the cashiers Category A will receive $708,122.00, category B will receive $711,664.00, and category C will receive $716,215.00.

The auxiliaries Category A will receive $708,122.00 in June, B, $713,179.00; and C, $729,869.00. Meanwhile, the special assistants of A will receive a salary of $714,193.00 and those of B $723,295.00.

Lastly, the sellers Category A will receive $708,122.00, those in category B will receive $723,297.00, C, $728,352.00; and D, $739,478.00.

As indicated in the agreement, all percentage increases will be settled based on the conventional bases corresponding to the month of March 2024 plus the non-remunerative sums as of that date.

“The signatory parties of this collective agreement assume the commitment to meet in June 2024, at the initiative of any of them, in order to analyze the conventional salary scales, sums, percentages, additions to the basics of the agreed increases, attentive to the economic variations that could have affected these scales,” the agreement indicates.

It is clarified that the increases in the agreement in question are not binding for salary agreements that could be signed within the city of Rio Grandeprovince of Land of Firewithout prejudice to the fact that the sums resulting from the agreed increases constitute the conventional minimum in force as of the approval.

The salary discussion is taking place in an adverse context for the sector due to the sharp drop in consumption. For example, according to the latest data available from the Argentine Chamber of Commerce (CAC), in April consumption suffered a drop of 4.5% year-on-year and 3.4% in the first 4 months of the year. However, it rose slightly compared to March with 0.6%.

The hardest hit items were recreation and culture, with a drop of 34% year-on-year, and clothing and footwear, with a drop of 21 percent.

In turn, according to the consulting firm Scentia, Mass consumption sales fell 13.8% in April compared to the same month in 2023.
