The Female Participation and Leadership axis of the Engineering 2030 project and the UV School of Computer Engineering held a technological workshop at the Valparaíso Girls’ High School No. 1 “María Franck de Mac Dougall”, an activity that had the collaboration of the InEs institutional project Gender.

Gabriela Araya, coordinator of the axis, says that “the purpose of the visit was to bring the Faculty and its Engineering careers closer to high school students, promoting the discovery and development of technological skills that motivate them to integrate into the STEM field (Science). , Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

“This activity is part of a set of initiatives of the Engineering 2030 Project that seek to reduce the gender gaps that exist in engineering careers,” he says.

The visit also included a workshop led by the Niñas Pro Foundation, where the existing gaps in these areas were addressed and the participants discovered in a playful way the algorithms behind the cell phone applications most used by the students.

The coordinator adds that “we had the opportunity to present the Technovation Girls program, which will begin to be developed in the second semester of this year, which aroused high interest among high school students to take the twelve-week training program to be carried out in our Faculty”.

The activity was attended by Ada Fuentes, director of the establishment; Mónica Lizama, pedagogical technical manager; Jessica Fleming, pedagogical technical coordinator of the Local Public Education Service (SLEP) of Valparaíso; Roberto Muñoz, director of the School of Computer Engineering, and the members of the Engineering 2030 project Ítalo Martori, Cecilia Inostroza and Gabriela Araya.

The day concluded with an institutional admission stand where the students were able to resolve their doubts and express their interests.
