The regional secretary of Women and Gender Equality in Tarapacá, Noemí Salinas, spoke about the recent presidential announcements in relation to her ministerial portfolio. Among the topics addressed, the next National Care System, the Equal Pay project between men and women, and legal abortion stand out.

In interview with Radio Paulina, Salinas emphasized the Government’s position on legal abortion, clarifying that “the content of the project is still under development” and called for “not caricaturing” the debate. He stressed that the objective is to comply with the government program and encourage a respectful and broad debate in the appropriate legislative spaces.

Salinas also highlighted the National Plan on Support and Care, pointing out that it seeks to recognize care as a right and not as an exclusive obligation of women, where he explained that they have worked together with the Ministry of Social Development to implement significant measures that support to 75,000 people with moderate to severe dependence or in a condition of prostration.

In that sense, the seremi pointed out that “arriving with the necessary benefits in terms of care is crucial, including anti-decubitus mattresses and minimum conditions so that bedridden people do not worsen their health.”

Regarding equal pay, the authority referred to the “Equal pay, equal pay” project, underlining the importance of eliminating the wage gap between men and women. “It is a great injustice that many women, for doing the same work as their male colleagues, receive a lower salary. We want to change this reality,” she stated.

Likewise, Seremi Salinas indicated that these announcements reflect the Government’s firm commitment to advance gender equality and improve the living conditions of many women in the country.
