Ciego de Ávila in the post XXI World Congress of the ASSITEJ – Periódico Invasor

Voices of a new world, is the motto of the ASSITEJ World Congress in its 2024 edition and our province was the post-congress sub-headquarters.

With various theatrical presentations, both in the capital of Avila and in the municipality of Morón, the post-congress of the International Association of Theater for Children and Youth (ASSITEJ) was held in Ciego de Ávila from June 2 to 3, under the sponsorship of the Provincial Council of the Performing Arts and Latin Luis’s Productions.

As Oristela Pérez Betanzos, programmer of the Council, told Invasor, “this is a theatrical meeting that follows the guidelines of the ASSITEJ World Congress, which began in Havana with the motto Voices of a new world, and has its consequences in provinces like ours, Villa Clara, Holguín, Granma and others.”

In just two days, but with intense and busy days, the streets of Avila and Moron were invaded by good local and foreign theater, as there were the presence of soloists and groups such as John Angel Velero, from Colombia; Play BTS, from Korea; and the Batida group, from Denmark.

They had beautiful and applauded presentations at the Abdala theater-hall, the Alfredo Miguel Aguayo Primary School; the Flor de Festival children’s circle and the Agramonte park of the Reverbero project, the latter two in Morón.

The children were motivated and pleasure and joy were evident on their faces, reaffirming that theater must fulfill a social and artistic function far above any social situation; and it must bring back hope in every human being, regardless of nationality.

Of ours, the puppet Polichinela had its presentations at the Abdala theater-hall headquarters with that monumental work that is Baby.

The House of History, of the Theater of Free Illusions, of Granma in the Abdala room

Teatro de las Ilusiones Libres, from Granma, was also performing in the Abdala room with the play The house of stories. And in Martí Park, Andante, from the same eastern province, presented The model. Both with very good public acceptance.

Within the framework of this congress, collaboration and understanding between diverse cultures and geographies was actively promoted, without language or accent restrictions. The fundamental purpose was to establish a space where emerging voices could resonate and where art became a tangible tool to generate significant change. In summary, the ASSITEJ Festival stands as a platform that promotes artistic expression and global connection in the field of performing arts aimed at young audiences.
