The approval of the Girardota development plan has generated quite a controversy in that municipality, after the Mayor Kevin Bernal announced that he was going to decree it, after failing to make it a municipal agreement with a vote in the Council.

According to the president, there was a deadline until 12:00 at night on May 31, but he pointed out that the president of the Council, Juan Ignacio Torres, and the councilors Sebastián Zapata and Daniel Orozco, “they would have delayed the voting, obstructing the process.” He even argued that the councilors overrode the regulations of the Municipal Council.

“It was the Council that approved the figure of sufficient illustration that indicates that it must immediately be close the debate and the Development Plan must be voted on, the draft agreement however, The approval of this proposal was ignored,” said the president.

However, in asides of the debate that the same councilors published on the corporation’s official account, They give their reasons for not approving, such as that the 266-page document was presented to them at 10 in the morning on the day they were to vote.

“I want to apologize to Girardota because I did not finish studying this document of more than 300 pages since 10 in the morning when it was presented to me, and the supervision of the contract started badly (…) We received a new development plan to analyze in 8 hours, that has no presentation, I am deeply sorry, although I respect the decision of the colleagues to make that proposal that seems as if they wanted to approve this development plan at the push of a button,” explained several of the corporate members.

The multi-year budget of this development plan is 290,000 million pesos and it highlights that The municipality seeks to have greater connectivity, drinking water, improve infrastructure in the rural area and improve the deficit of public space.

For now, Mayor Bernal indicated that he will file a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office. against the councilors, for omission of functions and for disregarding regulations such as the regulations. In turn, he accused him of depriving the other councilors of being able to vote.
