In San José, the cost of garbage collection service will increase starting July 1, as decided by the members of the Council.

Telemundo 48 spoke with some residents who thought this will affect them.

“Well I know, because some of us don’t have many resources. Some of us don’t have jobs,” said Mario García, a resident of San José.

But, even though the increase will affect his pocket, Mario added that he agrees with the measure.

“I say that it is better that they charge a little more because there is more cleaning, because there is a lot of dirt, we can’t, we have to be clean,” said Mario.

According to the recommendation adopted on Tuesday, single-family homes will pay 4% more monthly, while multi-family buildings will have to pay 2% more monthly.

To put it in perspective, those who currently pay $102 a month starting July 1st will be charged about $108.

Previous weeks, the city asked the community to email their concerns or contact the City Administration Office directly.

At this Tuesday’s meeting they also clarified that San Jose is one of the few cities in the Bay Area that has a program to collect waste such as unusable appliances, damaged furniture and other large items for free, so this increase It would also help compensate for this service.

According to the city, residents affected by this increase received a letter in advance explaining that this was about to occur.
