In a proactive measure to mitigate the effects of the La Niña phenomenon, the authorities of the municipality of Guamal held a meeting with the Risk Prevention and Attention Committee. The session focused on the development of strategies and the implementation of preventive measures to face the possible climate repercussions that this phenomenon could bring to the region.
The meeting, chaired by the mayor of Guamal, José Luis Ramos Gómez, had the participation of representatives from various sectors, including health, infrastructure, environment and security. During the session, the repercussions of the previous El Niño phenomenon, whose consequences still affect the region, were discussed. Reflection on these past events allowed us to identify key commitments and strategies to face future challenges, ensuring a coordinated and efficient response to climate emergencies.
«Our objective is to be prepared and minimize the negative impacts that La Niña may cause in our municipality. It is crucial to work together and have a clear and effective plan,” declared Mayor Ramos.
Among the measures adopted, the review and maintenance of drainage and sewage infrastructure, raising community awareness about safe practices during the heavy rainy season, and the creation of temporary shelters in case of evacuations stand out.
