Last Monday, several people from the same family were admitted to the San Joaquín hospital with symptoms compatible with cases related to accidental poisoning by an insecticide, known as organophosphate.

Sandra Gomez, operational director of Public Health of Pereira, reported that there are three adults and four minors from the same family. Due to the decompensation of vital signs, they had to be transferred to more complex hospitals, after consulting the San Joaquín hospital – Cuba.

Until now, their respective care is provided at the Los Nevados, Comfamiliar, MAC San Rafael and San Jorge University Hospital clinics.

The Municipal Health leader clarified that “The progress of the investigation reflects that the reason for the possible poisoning is due to the handling of organophosphates that contaminated foods prepared at home, but not purchased in commercial stores.”

The Ministry of Health insists on the correct use of agrochemical inputs handled from homes, the main measure for the prevention of involuntary poisoning.
