This June 5, Environment Day is celebrated around the world, a date designed to raise awareness about the importance of preserving our ecosystem and promoting respect for the environment that surrounds us. Within this framework, from the General Council of Education we disseminate resources and educational material to address the issue in the classrooms.

The origin of this commemoration dates back to 1972, when the United Nations (UN) General Assembly established World Environment Day during the historic Stockholm Conference, the first international meeting dedicated to addressing environmental concerns at a global level.

Led by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), this day has become the world’s largest platform for environmental awareness, being celebrated by millions of people around the planet.

On this day we are urged to reflect on how our choices and lifestyles affect the balance of nature and to recognize the urgent need to adopt practices that protect, preserve and regenerate our environment.

From the General Council of Education (CGE), we join this initiative and share a collection of resources titled “Education and Environment”, available to the entire educational community on the Learn Portal. The material, prepared by technical pedagogical teams in collaboration with various areas of the CGE, provides tools to address this issue in the classrooms, promoting environmental awareness from an early age and promoting a culture of respect and care for our planet.
