These days, in this hemisphere we constantly complain about the stifling heat and, in doing so, quite a few allude to climate change as the cause. However, the underlying factor of this problem is man’s own action.

According to Climate Trade magazine, more than 36 billion tons of carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change, are emitted into the Earth’s atmosphere each year.

Regarding this, at the Climate Action Summit, COP28, held last December, the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, pointed out that, in the path taken since the Paris Conference, “developing countries have promoted numerous climate actions, but there has been a lack of solidarity and the commitments of developed countries have not materialized, in accordance with their historical capacities and responsibilities.

Of the actions that Cuba implements, he noted that, although the Island contributes less than 0.1% of global emissions, there is a commitment to advance an energy transition strategy for a much more resilient and low-carbon development model.
