In a festive and colorful day, hundreds of children promised to take care of the environment

Hundreds of children promised to take care of the environment minutes ago at the Delmi stadium. Starting at 9 and to the rhythm of happy and modern music, fifth grade students from more than 40 schools and colleges in Salta, carrying posters about caring for the planet, began to dance, sing and applaud.

Each institution was distinguished by a particular color: green, orange, red or yellow. A festive atmosphere was experienced in the place. The boys had batons, balloons and flags. In addition, they wore hats, t-shirts and bibs. There was a delivery of trees to place in each school, information stands from organizations, companies and institutions, samples and a parade of costumes made with reusable material.

With great enthusiasm, Matías Javier, a 10-year-old boy from the Clara Saravia Linares de Arias school, in the southern area, exhibited a robot made with recycled materials and said: “I made this robot to recycle various objects. My classmates told me They helped and brought boxes to make the body and then with things and materials I had at home we decorated it.”

He also said that he likes to recycle and that he makes ball bearings and pencils with small bottles. “I like to play with the bearings I make. I feel happy and very excited for having brought my robot and for making the promise to the environment.”

Against dengue

During the event, special emphasis was placed on prevention measures against dengue and the importance of hygiene in homes and waste disposal. There were also games and the Carlitos Melión show and his dolls brought dances, laughter and a lot of color to the day.

Alejandra Costas, a teacher at the Normal School, highlighted the importance of the date. “Today is a fundamental day to create more values related to the care of our environment in all aspects and senses, from the preservation of water and animals to plants. Being able to recycle waste, reuse it and make things as beautiful as those that the boys are exhibiting here is fascinating.

The Juan Bautista Alberdi school was another of the establishments that participated. One of his students, Dylan, said: “I’m happy because we were able to parade and show the things we recycled. We want to live in a better world and for that we have to take care of it.”

A very exciting moment was experienced at the end of the day when the children exclaimed: “Yes, I promise!” in unison.

A fundamental right

The United Nations Organization established June 5 as World Environment Day. On this date, in 1972, the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment was held in Stockholm. There, the fundamental right of all people to freedom and equality in an environment whose quality allows one to live with dignity and well-being was declared for the first time.

In Salta, in June 2017, the Senate approved law 8,011, which establishes that children must commit to the environmental cause. Since then, fifth grade students in primary schools must take an Environmental Pledge – comparable to the one corresponding to Flag Day – every June 5.
