Luis Lota offered details about what it means for Soacha to enter the Metropolitan Region.

In a significant move, the municipality of Soacha officially joined the Metropolitan regionas announced by the mayor of Soacha, Julián Sánchez Perico, through their social networks. “We advanced the extraordinary session of the Regional Council to make official the entry of Soacha into the Metropolitan Region. The Mayor of Bogotá, the Governor of Cundinamarca, Jorge Emilio Rey, and the Director of the Metropolitan Region, Luis Lota, welcomed us” wrote Sánchez Perico.

In a recent conference with a renowned media outlet in the region, the Director of the Metropolitan Region, Luis Lota, offered details about what this integration means for Soacha. “Soacha is officially now part of the Metropolitan Region. This is a space to work collaboratively between Bogotá and Cundinamarca to build a joint, not imposed, regional vision. Projects such as the operation of phases two and three of TransMilenio, the construction of the bridge over the Tibanica canal and the structuring of metro line 3 are underway,” Lota explained.

Will more housing projects be built in Soacha with the Metropolitan Region?

Among the highlighted topics, Lota stressed the importance of planning the growth of the municipality in an orderly manner. “We want to prevent this uncontrolled expansion that has caused us so much damage. The first metropolitan fact on which we are working is water, to understand our capacity and determine a clear development model,” he noted.

When asked if more homes would be built in Soacha, Lota was clear: “This is an issue that must be discussed judiciously and responsibly. Soacha must grow in an orderly manner, linking us all together. The arrival of the Metropolitan Region does not automatically imply the massive construction of housing without planning.”

Furthermore, Lota mentioned that Soacha will receive significant resources. “Soacha will receive resources from the national government and the vehicle tax from both Cundinamarca and Bogotá for the construction of infrastructure and for coordinated work. In terms of contributions, Soacha has a much more beneficial proportion compared to other municipalities,” he added.

This step marks a milestone for Soacha, with the promise of more orderly and sustainable growth, and greater regional collaboration to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants.
