Mountaineering Branch keeps registration open for students on campus.
Eleven athletes from the Mountaineering Branch of the Universidad Católica del Norte (UCN) managed to climb Cerro Toco, located in the Antofagasta region, reaching its summit at 5,604 meters above sea level.
This adventure not only tested their physical and mental endurance, but also highlighted the team spirit and passion for mountaineering that characterizes the UCN Community. In addition, they had to face challenges such as low temperatures, steep terrain and the decrease in oxygen typical of high mountains.
The president of the UCN Mountaineering Branch, Camila Durán, stated that “We seek to promote teamwork, appreciation of our natural environment and, above all, personal improvement. These sports activities are of great importance in the comprehensive training of UCN students, because they reaffirm the commitment of our University to the development of skills beyond the classroom.”.
The ascent of Cerro Toco is also an opportunity to put into practice the athletes’ knowledge of geography, meteorology and ecology, in a real and challenging environment. The success of this expedition is a testament to the adventurous spirit and dedication of the UCN athletes, who continue to demonstrate that, with effort and teamwork, any summit is achievable.
OPEN ENROLLMENT
The UCN mountaineering sports branch invites all students interested in adventure and nature to join this exciting group. It is not necessary to have previous experience, just the desire to learn and enjoy the mountains in a safe and friendly environment.
Activities include training, expert talks and expeditions to different destinations in the region, offering an excellent opportunity to develop physical and mental skills.
