In an important advance for climate monitoring and water resource management, the first snowological station in La Rioja will be installed in Famatina, specifically in “El Portezuelo de Illanes”, near station 8 of the “La Mejicana” mine, a a height of 4,370 meters above sea level. This project is the result of the efforts made by Governor Ricardo Quintela before the Undersecretariat of Water Resources of the Nation.

The new station will have the capacity to measure the amount of snow fallen in the area, providing crucial data to determine the contribution of water to the Antinaco – Los Colorados valley. The installation of this measurement system is of great relevance, since it will allow better planning and management of water resources in the region.

In addition, this snowological station will connect with the meteorological radar installed in Patquía, expanding the extent of coverage to monitor and predict meteorological events in the Riojan territory. This link between the station and the radar will allow a more complete and precise analysis of the weather conditions in the province.

The installation of this snowological station marks a significant milestone, as it will be the first of its kind in La Rioja with the capacity to measure the amount of snowfall. After this first station, the installation of four other stations will proceed, which will also be integrated with the weather radar in Patquía, further improving the climate monitoring network in the province.

This development promises to benefit both the inhabitants and the economic activities of the region, providing valuable data for sustainable water management and mitigation of the effects of extreme climate events.
