The Municipality announced that the procedures have advanced so that the Cordoban genre par excellence enters the list of intangible assets that must be preserved before the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

In short, if the process is approved, the Córdoba genre will become part of the so-called Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

As announced by the cultural portfolio of the Municipality, “the admission is a new step in the advancement of the quartet’s candidacy to be declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity” and they clarified that “it is a preliminary step from which the practice cultural enters the evaluation process and then is officially declared as such.”

This implies a recognition of its cultural value and marks the beginning of a process that could culminate in the official declaration of “tunga tunga” as a global good, as already happened with chamamé and tango, years ago.

Long way

The process began with the previous management of Martín Llaryora, and continued with that of Daniel Passerini and included different actions that generated the conditions and institutional structures necessary to comply with the required formalities.

Among those actions were the ordinance that declared the genre as local cultural heritage and the creation of the Cuarteto Museum, among many more. All this accompanied by anthropological, sociological studies and research techniques that reconfirmed its social value and its cultural and musical wealth.

The singer Fernando Bladys was present.

The Secretary of Culture, Mariano Almada, when announcing the good news said: “Seeing the plaque with the nomination of the Argentine Republic for the period 2024-2025 of the quartet as Intangible Heritage of Humanity, fills us with pride for all the work done. for this objective. This is not done alone, but as a team.”

For his part, Mayor Daniel Passerini announced a series of measures that will be carried out to achieve the declaration.

Among them is “the production of archival materials in order to preserve memory and generate sources for consultation; the creation of a quartet Academy for comprehensive training in music and dance; and the implementation of an awards system that makes visible the work carried out by the people who make up the Quartet practices.”
