The first question revolves around art. 1, section G, which establishes “developing environmental care policies, efficient management of natural resources, development of renewable and clean energies,” as community members understand, this would allow the Executive expand their powers to manage natural resources, given that where the communities live are lands rich in minerals.
Likewise, they also pointed to art. 11 section C, which establishes “processes of evacuation, relocation, resettlement of populations and the direct assistance necessary to face critical situations, derived from climate change and phenomena of children: avalanches, phenomenon of mass removal, floods, earthquakes , vegetation fires, prolonged droughts, heat waves, hailstorms and extreme snowfalls, among others”, as the indigenous peoples understand, with this article the government would justify moving the communities from their lands without specifying for what period of time.
On the other hand, they denounced that the Emergency law is complemented by what the government of Javier Milei is promoting with the RIGI – which is within the Bases Law – and that it grants extraordinary benefits to companies that invest in the country.
Thus, the 400 indigenous communities of Jujuy consider that the management of water by Mekorot will mean its looting, theft and scarcity, in addition to the dispossession of their lands. The fight in defense of water will take place in the streets: from 8 a.m. they will gather in Plaza Belgrano and at 9:30 a.m. they will give a press conference.
