In an effort to strengthen environmental awareness and promote forestation, the Chamber of Deputies of La Rioja has sanctioned Law No. 10,720, which adheres to National Law No. 27,683, establishing August 29 as “National Tree Day.” » and declaring the last week of August as «Provincial Tree Week». The Governor of the province, Ricardo Quintela, promulgated the law today through Decree No. 796.

Representative Nadina Verónica Reynoso, who presented the project, highlighted the importance of this law to promote the conservation and protection of trees in the region. “The law not only seeks to celebrate a day, but also to promote cultural and environmental change that benefits our communities in the long term,” said Reynoso.

The law declares of public interest the actions aimed at the creation of seed banks and nurseries for the production of seedlings of native species, thus guaranteeing the provision of trees for both urban and rural forestry. In addition, the active participation of schools, public and private institutions, civil society organizations and citizens in general in programs related to forestry will be promoted.

Article 4 of the law establishes that the Executive Branch will develop policies and programs to raise awareness about the importance of conserving trees, implementing an effective and permanent procedure for environmental information and education.

Likewise, sustainable forestry campaigns will be promoted and technical and financial support will be provided to projects related to the creation and maintenance of seed banks and nurseries of native species. Scientific and technological research in this area will also be promoted to strengthen and diversify the supply of trees.

The Executive Function will establish coordination mechanisms with the National Executive Branch and other provinces adhered to National Law No. 27,683, in order to promote joint actions and share experiences in the conservation of trees.

Governor Quintela stressed the importance of collaboration between all sectors of society to achieve the objectives of the law. “This legislation is a crucial step to ensure a greener and more sustainable future for La Rioja. We invite all municipalities in the province to join this initiative and work together to protect our natural environment,” said the governor.

With the promulgation of this law, La Rioja reaffirms its commitment to protecting the environment and promoting sustainable practices, seeking a balance between development and conservation of natural resources.
