A massive power outage affected more than 450 thousand customers in twenty communes in the central and southeastern area of Greater Santiago, in the Metropolitan Region, due to a high-voltage failure of the Ochagavia-La Florida line, owned by a transmission company other than Enel.

The interruption, which began to be reported around midnight, was recorded to a greater extent in the communes of Santiago, Ñuñoa, La Florida, San Joaquín, Puente Alto and San Miguel.

The National Electrical Coordinator confirmed that “at 00:04 a.m. a failure occurred in the 110 kV Florida – Ochagavía Line, affecting 260 MW of consumption at the Macul, Santa Elena, San Joaquín and Club Hífico Substations.”

A brief report from Senapred stated that it was “the product of a tree falling on a high-voltage tower in the commune of La Florida,” and that “no emergency situations derived from this condition have been recorded.”

According to the latest report from the SEC, after 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, only 1,274 customers in the most affected communities are still without electricity supply.
