Guantanamo authorities They denied that the bread in the regulated basic family basket contains sandafter numerous complaints from the population about the poor quality of this basic food.

The Directorate of the Food Company in the province clarified that the bread that has been sold through the supply book for several days It does not have any harmful substances in its composition to human health.

“Any speculation in this regard, which refers to the presence of sand or other inorganic material, is uncertain,” he stressed in a note published in the newspaper overcome.

Eneldis Matos Romero, general director of the company, admitted however that the bread has “impurities” that produce an annoying sensory effect on the palate when eating it due to the characteristics of the imported wheat that is used in cooking the food.

According to the manager, the UEB of Cereals in Santiago de Cuba, where the wheat is ground, lacks a pre-cleaning system that helps eliminate impurities from the grain, so a percentage of them remains in the flour even after of crushed wheat.

Matos Romero stressed that those particles that are felt when eating the bread are not sand, but impurities from the wheat itself, and that its safety was certified by the laboratories of the Ministry of the Food Industry in Havana and Moa.

He added that this batch of wheat will only last one month and then production will continue with other flour.
