The Carlos Guerrero room of the Central Coliseum of the National Stadium Park was the setting for the launch of the School Sports Games (JDE)the main student competition in Chile, which in 13 disciplines starts in the communal phase until the national finals that give places to the South American Games that this year will be held in Bucaramanga, Colombia.

“We are very happy to be here, at the National Stadium Park, where the national final of these School Sports Games will be held. What boys and girls from the sub 10, sub 12, sub 14 and Youth categories have the opportunity to participate for free in a tournament that includes schools from 91% of the country’s communes, that is very gratifying,” said Jaime Pizarro, Minister of Sports.

The idea is to reach the majority of the country, including communes that are not easily accessible, but do have schools and can be part of this party. “We want to promote the sport from an early age, in all parts of Chile, which is why it gives us so much satisfaction that in this tournament there are representatives not only from continental Chile, but also from Rapa Nui and Juan Fernández,” added Pizarro.

The total development of the Games considers an investment close to 7 billion pesos and seeks to become the event with the most registrations throughout all the competitions.: “We have been working very hard to call more schools and according to our projection, we could reach 160 students from all over the country, which is an enormous leap and is part of the policy of massification of physical activity in public educational establishments, private and subsidized,” added Israel Castro, National Director of the IND.

Registration is free, and interested establishments can access all the information at www.ind.clin the special section of the JDE 2024. The disciplines are the following: chess, athletics, adapted athletics, handball, basketball, cycling, soccer, futsal, judo, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis and volleyball.
