Work progresses at the Villa Obrera Market

The new Municipal Market will be located in the historic building of the former Villa Obrera Popular Library, located in front of the main square, between Pedro Melo de Portugal and Joaquín del Pino streets. This initiative seeks to rescue the historical and cultural wealth of the neighborhood, turning an abandoned building into a vibrant center of commercial and community activity.

“It was decided to revalue the entire building so we are moving forward in stages. Now we are leveling and profiling the street and 300 meters of sidewalk. New pipes, public lighting columns and a floor similar to the previous interventions will be incorporated since it will be semi-pedestrian,” he explained. Guadalupe Rearte, Undersecretary of Infrastructure.

The market will have commercial premises on the ground floor, which will house a varied range of products such as vegetables, fresh meats and a bar. In addition, a literary café bar will be built on the upper floor, a space for meeting and culture.

The project also includes the creation of a cobblestone street that will serve as an extension of the interior space, offering the possibility of outdoor activities and encouraging social interaction.
