The selected projects were chosen from more than 500 proposals from all over the country.

Tunja, June 7, 2024. (UACP).Two projects from the department of Boyacá were selected as finalists of the ‘Innovation Challenge in Community Tourism Colombia’, a contest organized by UN Tourism, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, and the National Tourism Fund (Fontur) that aims to promote innovation in community tourism and sustainability in the sector.

The department of Boyacá was presented with two outstanding initiatives chosen from among 570 projects.

In the category of rural and urban communities, the ‘Comunidad del Encanto’ project, developed by the Provincial Convite Network, was selected for its innovative community tourism proposal and its positive impact on the region.

On the other hand, in the category of women and youth, the Departmental Network of Community Tourism of Boyacá will be participating, from its approach, in the inclusion and empowerment of these demographic groups in tourism.

With this first selection, the challenge advances to its second stage, in which participants will carry out a path of growth and acceleration with the support of experts to refine their proposals and improve their presentation.

One of the most anticipated moments of this phase is the immersive entrepreneurship and innovation camp or bootcamp that will be held from June 20 to 22 in Choachí, Cundinamarca. It is a municipality that has been recognized by UN Tourism as one of the best towns for tourists in the world, a circumstance that adds special value to this training experience.

In the final stage of the challenge, the five best projects will present their solutions at the UN Tourism Tech Adventure Colombia, a forum developed by UN Tourism that will take place later this year.

This event will be attended by key players in the innovation ecosystem at a national and international level, including ministers, investment funds, private companies and startups, offering an invaluable platform for the visibility and growth of participating projects.

In addition, all participants in this call, even those who did not advance in the different stages, will access a portfolio of benefits sponsored by the organizing entities and the strategic allies of the challenge. Among the allies are the Colombian American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham); the International Colombia Corporation (CCI), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA); Wayra; Movistar; the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce and Innovalab.

The selection of these projects is a reflection of the potential and creativity that characterize Boyacá, strengthening the tourism management model in the region and positioning it as a benchmark in innovative community tourism.
