The Constitutional Court has closed the door to Felipe Córdoba’s aspiration to occupy the position of Attorney General of the Nation, by declaring the unenforceability of a rule that allowed candidates to homologate the experience obtained in professions other than law.

After a year of deliberations, The Constitutional Court made public the document that declares the constitutionality of the reform to the statutory law on the administration of justice.

This decision comes after, months ago, it was revealed how different political forces were working to bring Felipe Córdoba to the Attorney General’s Office, replacing Margarita Cabello, whose replacement is scheduled for 2025.

Prior to this decision, the Supreme Court of Justice had asked the Minister of the Interior to submit a consultation to the Council of State to determine the profile required for the position of Attorney General.

This included the possibility that lawyers could accredit the experience acquired in related professions, which would allow Felipe Córdoba to support his 10 years of experience, necessary for the application, through the sum of his careers.

However, The Constitutional Court has closed this possibility by declaring the unenforceability of the rule that allowed experience in other professions other than law to be approved. to complete the years required for the position of Attorney.

In this regard, President Gustavo Petro expressed: “I believe that the Constitutional Court does well in defending the qualifications to be a magistrate. Still, unconventionally, the prosecutor is assigned the role of judge over all public servants.
